Guidelines/Information

SUNBURY ISLAMIC CENTER
AL HUDA SCHOOL
GUIDELINES AND INFORMATION

As Salaamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatu Parents!

Welcome to Al Huda School!  Insha Allaah, we hope to provide your child/ren with quality Islaamic education primarily based on the Weekend Learning curriculum:  http://www.weekendlearning.com.

Our school is based on a BROAD Sunni school-of-thought perspective.

Below are guidelines and information we have found helpful throughout the years.  As always, your input is welcome, and if you can think of anything to benefit our school and children, be sure to let us know.

- The principal and treasurer for the 2015-2016 school year is Sister Safiyyah (570) 286-1611 (home), (717) 433-0969 (cell), Jihadlevine@yahoo.com

- The vice principal for the 2015-2016 school year is Sister Shagufta(570) 561-2660 (home), (570), 205-1354 (cell), Write2Shagufta@gmail.com

Tuition rates are as follows:

a.        $35/month for the first child
b.       $30/month for the second child
c.        $25/month for the third child
d.       $20/month for the fourth child
e.        $15/month for the fifth child
f.        $10/month for the sixth child
g.       Seventh and above child from the same Mom is free !

You can pay the first Sunday of each month, or you can pay all at one time.  Whatever is easiest for you.

Once enrolled in school, payment is expected each month for the entire school year.  There will be no refunds or partial tuition for sick time, vacations, etc.

Al Huda School turns no Muslim child away from its school.  If you are having trouble paying tuition, need a payment plan, or need a scholarship, etc., please speak with Sister Safiyyah privately.  You can be assured that all information is held in strict confidence.

Please make checks payable to:  Al Huda School.

Please note that we are not accepting children five and under, not in full time kindergarten secular school for the 2015-2016 school year.  If there is enough interest, we will start a pre-school class.

To that end, parents of children under 6 years of age MUST remain in the mosque while their children are in classes in case your assistance is needed.  It is disruptive to the classes to expect teachers to control behavior of young children if you are not in the mosque.    If you child/ren are mis-behaving in class and do not respond to the correction of the teacher, you will be asked to remove your kid from the class temporarily in order to speak with him/her/them.  JAK for helping us in this area.

School tuition includes all books, materials, and lunch (usually pizza).  The school will provide water to drink.  No desserts or junk food will be served at lunch.  Think of the poor third-period teacher that has to deal with all those sugared-up kids, lol!  From time to time when someone has a special occasion and you want to bring a cake or something, that's okay, just let the principal know because we do not children in our school with peanut allergies.

You should provide a book bag and notebook to keep your child/ren’s materials together.

Schedule:

Classes are held on Sundays.  Please be sure to arrive promptly by 10:30 a.m. for “Circle Time.”

ALL TEACHERS AND STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO BE ON TIME!  The Circle Time is a grounding activity, and a time for important announcements.

MOSQUE DOOR WILL BE LOCKED AT 10:45 A.M. FOR SECURITY!  If this upsets you, think of the Sikh Temple massacre, church shootings, and the other recent acts of violence/vandalism reported in the news lately.  Anyhow, this is how most mosque schools operate.

If you are arriving late, please call Sr. Safiyyah on her cell phone (717-433-0969), and someone will be sent to open the door for you.  We cannot guarantee, however, that we will hear you if you are knocking or pounding. Try to be on time, as respect for time is from the etiquettes of Islaam.

ALL STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO BE PRESENT FOR THE ENTIRE SCHOOL DAY!

PLEASE DO NOT ARRIVE TO PICK UP YOUR CHILD/REN UNTIL THE SALAH IS DONE UNLESS YOU INTEND TO STAY AND PRAY THE SALAH WITH US.

The school day ends with one or both afternoon prayers (depending on prayer schedule through the school year).

If you need to leave early, or if your children will be absent from class, you are expected to let us know.  Please call Sister Safiyyah so your child/ren can be marked “absent” instead of “no-show.”  Teachers will keep attendance.

In the case of inclement weather or class cancellation for other reasons, you will be notified by telephone AND email.  Be sure to check your devices.  We will make every attempt to notify you.

Miscellaneous:

1.       Parents are expected to supervise their small children between classes.
2.       No food or drinks/baby bottles in the musalla.
3.       No children are permitted in the kitchen area (behind the counter) and especially in the refrigerator without permission from Sr. Safiyyah, principal.
4.       Please do not allow your child/ren to go without shoes while in the masjid hallways, bathrooms, or basement.  Otherwise, they track impurities onto the musalla carpet. The bathrooms and basements have frequent floods/overflows and we don't want this filth on the musalla carpet.
5.      All children should be dressed age appropriately and modestly according to Islaamic adab.  Elementary and high school level girls are expected to wear hijab while in school and refrain from coming to school in tight clothing and jeans/pants.
6.      The teachers will be teaching the child/ren to use the shoe racks.  Please reinforce this and use the shoe racks yourselves!
7.      Please check with your child/ren each week to see what homework they have been assigned.  This is especially important for the Arabic classes.  It is suggested that you maintain email contact with the teacher for your child/ren Arabic classes.
8.      Feel free to call or email your child/ren's teacher(s) if you have questions or concerns!
9.      To keep distraction at a minimum during class time, parents are requested to sit in the entry area on the first floor where you first come into the mosque during the duration of the classes.  There will be two classes in the musalla.  If you choose to sit in the musalla, PLEASE utilize that area for prayer/meditation NOT for socializing.  Please help us with this in order to not distract the teachers and children during the classes.
10.     No parents this year in the classes unless your assistance is requested by the individual teacher.
11.     Please keep the masjid clean.  Each of us, adults and children, have a responsibility to keep Allaah ta'ala's House clean.  If could be anything from picking of trash, cleaning out the tea kettle, or cleaning up after lunch.
